God is bringing medical care to La Esmeralda
God has allowed us to partner with Nicaragua missionaries, Brian Weed and Wade & Shannon Cooperrider to build and support a medical clinic and begin a sport program through the church in La Esmeralda, Nicaragua. Home to about 4000 people, La Esmeralda is located up in the mountains between Jinotega and Matagalpa.
As we learned about the needs of the people there, it became abundantly clear that we needed to assist them in building a medical clinic. The closest one is an hour away and very few people have transportation. Pregnant women and children were getting no medical care in that area. Infant and child mortality rates were uncomfortably high.
After many delays and hardships the clinic finally opened in June 2011. The medical staff sees patients on a regular basis. The clinic is making a kingdom impact in the area with over 10,000 patient visits each year. We have seen both physical and spiritual life change as a result of open doors to the gospel because of the clinic.
